Dining out is one of my favourite things to do, which unfortunately has been put on hold for a few weeks. I would usually eat out one or two times a week, whether that be at one of my favourite restaurants, or trying somewhere new. To keep me busy while the hospitality sector is closed I have recently been going on lots of walks throughout Northern Ireland and exploring new places during lockdown. Not only is this new activity much easier on my bank account than my original, but it has also benefitted me in various different ways so it's a win-win really. I thought I would take pictures during walks and share some of the prettiest places I have recently visited.

Lurgan Park is an open parkland with various walking routes. The main feature of the park is a beautiful man-made lake, home to many ducks and swans making it very popular for families with young children. No matter what time or day you visit Lurgan Park you can be sure to see an abundance of people 'feeding the ducks'. The newly refurbished playpark also makes it a hit with families. The playpark also has water features that are great during the summer months. You can also find a tennis court, a bowling green, and multiple football pitches, so there is something for everyone. After burning all that energy why not re-boost with a coffee or ice cream from Robinsons, icecream van, or relax at Brownlow House with afternoon tea. Brownlow Castle is a gorgeous building both inside and out, it also has a stunning view of the park and lake.

Tollymore Forest Park located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains offers breathtaking views of Newcastle. It is 630 hectares and is a great walk, and a great trial before climbing the mournes themselves. The Shima River runs through the forest and there are various rock pools situated throughout, which during the summer months these can be used to cool down and relax after a long walk. There is a selection of walking trails available from easy to more challenging, including the Mountain and Drinns Trail, River Trail, and Arboretum Path. It is also featured in the tv show Game of Thrones, so if you're a fan you definitely have to give it a visit and recall the scenes. There is a wooden play area located beside the carpark which features a large wooden deer in which the children can climb and walk along.

It's no secret that during the autumn months Stormont in Belfast has the most stunning background for the perfect Instagram post. When the leaves create a brown blanket along the path you really know that autumn has arrived. Stormont gardens have a long woodland walk which is 4km through the grounds of the estate, as well as a 1.6km fitness trail with outdoor equipment located at various parts throughout. This is a great place to bring your dogs as there is an enclosed area where dogs can be let off the leash and owners can relax at the picnic benches provided. There is a park available for children with climbing frames, swings, and a zip line. You can visit the Stormont Estate Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm.

I saved the best for last, which has to be Hillsborough Forest. There are two walking routes to choose from but my favorite has to be the lake trail as you get to take in the stunning views of the lake throughout the 1.1 mile walk. The beauty of the lake amazes me every time. The second route is the Fox Fourt trail which is 2.2 miles and consists of gorgeous forest views. There is also a brilliant wood-land themed children's outdoor play area. Various viewpoints with seating can be found throughout the walk, as well as picnic benches where you can relax and enjoy the views. Percy's Coffee can be found in the car park and is a cute little coffee van that sells some tasty treats and a small variety of refreshments, including a latte for £2.40. A visit to the forest would not be complete without checking out Hillborough Castle, Northern Ireland's only royal residence. Not only is the castle a stunning building itself, but it is also located within 100 acres of stunning garden. During the winter months you can visit the gardens Thursday-Sunday from 10am-4pm.
